In beginning 2022 I got a voucher for a VMware certification that expired in April 2022. I booked a certification exam and started to study. In March i got my certification.
I have been a Systems Administrator since the dawn of Windows 95, and a silent promotor of Citrix in beginning of 2000 and shifting towards VMware in 2009. I have during my career mostly worked in inhouse IT and the need to be certified hasn’t been a requirement. So when I decided to take this certification on, i didn’t know what to expect. I do have 12 years of experience working with vcenter and ESXi. When going down this road and checking all topics for the exam, i realize all my shortcomings in details of each area. I spent 25 hours in video material, reading exam blogs and taking a few pre-exams. I was really nervous when taking exam later that spring, but my preparations have me a 90% score and i got my certification. Since then i haven’t worked so much with VMware, because we have shifted towards the cloud, mostly Azure. I guess it’s time to line up some Azure knowledge and get certified, it’s kind of fun to explore new things.
